There are moments in life you don’t plan for. Moments that start out as just another story… and somehow turn into something much bigger.
That’s exactly what happened after my trip to the Masters.
What started as an incredible experience at Augusta National turned into a viral moment, a heated online debate, and one of the most eye-opening social media experiences I’ve had.

The Masters Experience
If you’ve never been to the Masters, it’s hard to explain. It’s not just a golf tournament. It’s an experience.
Everything about Augusta National is different. The course, the atmosphere, the traditions, even the way people talk about it. You feel it the second you step on property.
I had the opportunity to go with my son, and for us, it was more than just a trip. It was meaningful. Especially considering everything our family has been through, including his battle with cancer.
Moments like that stick with you.
So when we got back, we recorded a podcast episode breaking it all down. And like I always do, I pulled a few clips from the episode to share online.
The Reel That Took Off
Most of my content typically gets around 1,500 to 2,000 views. Nothing crazy.
But this reel was different.
The clip was simple. I talked about being pulled aside by Masters security. At the time, it wasn’t a huge deal. Just unexpected.
We were flagged, taken to a separate area, and questioned about our tickets.
We answered everything honestly, and after about an hour, we were on our way.
I posted the clip thinking people might find it interesting.
Within hours, it started taking off.
10,000 views… 20,000… 100,000… and eventually over 450,000 views.
Then came the comments.
The Internet Does What the Internet Does
If you’ve ever had something go viral, you know what happens next.
People start forming opinions.
Some were supportive:
- “I’ve heard they do this.”
- “That’s crazy, thanks for sharing.”
Others weren’t so friendly:
- “You’re lying.”
- “That never happened.”
- “This sounds made up.”
And then the debates really started.
People arguing about ticket rules. Others defending Augusta. Some claiming the Masters has changed. Others saying it’s still perfect.
At some point, it wasn’t even about me anymore.
I just started the conversation.
The Truth About What Happened
Here’s the reality.
We were given tickets by a friend. We didn’t buy them. We didn’t break any rules.
We checked in, showed ID, and got in without any issues.
The next day, we were pulled aside and asked questions.
That’s it.
It wasn’t some dramatic situation. It wasn’t hostile. It just took time and felt uncomfortable.
But here’s the important part:
We loved the Masters.
The experience at Augusta National exceeded expectations.
Was it perfect? No.
The Pro Shop is chaotic. Sizes are inconsistent. The rules are strict.
But that’s part of what makes it unique.
Why the Masters Debate Matters
The bigger conversation that came out of this is actually interesting.
Augusta National is a private club.
They control everything. Tickets, access, rules.
Some people don’t like that.
Others think that’s exactly what makes it special.
Personally, I see both sides.
It’s their club. They can do what they want.
But when something becomes as iconic as the Masters, people are going to have opinions.
That’s just the reality of it.
The Bigger Golf Conversation
This whole experience also ties into something bigger happening in golf right now… LIV Golf.
There’s been a lot of talk about funding, players returning, and what the future looks like.
Here’s my take.
Competition isn’t bad.
LIV pushed the PGA Tour. Prize money increased. Attention increased. The game grew.
Do I think LIV looks the same in the future? Probably not.
But I don’t think we just pretend it never mattered either.
Golf is bigger than one tour.
And long-term, I think the game benefits from competition and opportunity.
The Reality of Going Viral
One of the biggest takeaways from this experience is how powerful social media really is.
A simple story can turn into a major conversation.
A short clip can reach hundreds of thousands of people.
And suddenly, you’re part of discussions you never expected to be in.
But there’s also upside.
We gained followers. More people found the podcast. More people connected with the content.
And that’s the goal.

Life Beyond the Viral Moment
At the end of the day, this is just one moment.
Life keeps moving.
We’ve got tournaments coming up.
My son is preparing for U.S. Open qualifying.
My daughter continues competing at a high level in junior golf.
Our family stays busy. Golf stays busy.
And that’s really what this podcast is about.
Not just golf.
Not just viral moments.
But the intersection of golf, business, leadership, and real life.
Final Thoughts
The Masters was incredible.
The viral reel was unexpected.
The reactions were… entertaining.
But the biggest lesson is this:
You never know what’s going to connect.
Sometimes the stories you almost don’t share…
are the ones that end up reaching the most people.
